Depo-Provera® is a progestin-based hormonal contraceptive injection administered every three months, preventing ovulation and decreasing the chance of pregnancy. New research has recently linked long term use of the drug, containing the medroxyprogesterone acetate, with an “excess risk” of developing meningioma brain tumors. While these tumors are mostly benign and non-cancerous, they can require surgical intervention and pose a significant health risk if left unmonitored. The drug manufacturer Pfizer has been aware of these risks and yet did not properly inform users on the Depo-Provera warning label.
Millions of women have taken this injection with around 2 - 3 million prescriptions filled annually in the US. Currently, the courts are looking at a potential MDL (Multidistrict Litigation) for this case type. If you are a loved one have used Depo-Provera contraceptive injection and been diagnosed with meningioma, call our office today to speak with our attorneys.
