Business LawGraileys Fine Wines Sues Hartford Insurance for Denying COVID-19 Business Interruption Claim

May 11, 2020

A federal lawsuit has been filed on behalf of Graileys Fine Wines after a business-interruption claim filed by the business was denied by its provider.

Graileys is just one of thousands of businesses across the country that have suffered losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The highly acclaimed Dallas establishment, located in the city’s Design District, was shuttered after Dallas County authorities ordered all non-essential businesses to close in March.

While Graileys’ insurance policy included coverage for damages caused by interruptions such as business closures ordered by civil authorities, Hartford Insurance denied the claim.

“Like any responsible business, Graileys did everything it could to prepare for events like we’re experiencing right now,” said lawyer Matthew McCarley. “This business made sure it had coverage for interruptions and dutifully paid its premiums. Hartford is trying to make up an excuse after the fact and cite language not even in Graileys’ policy to reject this claim.”monetary losses.
