The maker of Pradaxa, a popular anticoagulant used to treat a number of medical conditions including atrial fibrillation, is under scrutiny by the federal government, the media, and victims and their families in the wake of medical studies which suggest that some of the health risks associated with this product may be greater than reported.
Specifically, the FDA is currently investigating Pradaxa’s tendency to increase the risk of heart attacks and several victim lawsuits have pointed to medical research suggesting that internal bleeding may be a more serious problem than anticipated.
With health products, its important for drug manufacturers to fully, timely, and accurately communicate the risks of their products so that health care providers and patients have a complete picture of the risks and rewards of a particular treatment option.
