Study in Pediatrics Points to Celexa Side Effects

A study published in Pediatrics outlines the stark reality associated with fetal and neonatal exposure to a class of prescription drugs known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). When pregnant women consume SSRIs like Celexa (citalopram) during their pregnancy, they increase the risk that their babies are born with abnormal heart rhythms, unusual sleeping patterns, and disrupted neurological development, according to the findings of medical researchers.

These behavioral and developmental concerns aren’t all. Medical research into the effects of Celexa (citalopram) has also determined that fetal Celexa exposure can also result in an even more dangerous birth defect known as persistent pulmonary hypertension (PPHN). In a number of PPHN cases, infant-patients have had to undergo serious surgery just weeks after birth. As you would imagine, PPHN is a severe condition, and surgery is a relatively high risk – but often necessary – response to this ailment.

Has your child demonstrated symptoms associated with fetal or neonatal Celexa (citalopram) exposure? If so, you need to act immediately. You should contact your doctor. Given the state of the medical research, however, you should also contact the attorneys at the Dallas firm of Fears Nachawati. Your child and your family may be the victims of the manufacturer of Celexa. You owe to yourself, your spouse, and your children to find out if your dangerous drug exposure claims are valid.
