America may be getting older, but Type 2 diabetes, one of the country’s most threatening and widespread diseases, is getting younger.
What was once considered a disease affecting primarily elderly Americans, Type 2 diabetes is increasingly found in younger and younger populations, according to the leading medical journals. Estimates for the U.S., for instance, predict that in the next forty years the number of Type 2 diabetes patients will increase to nearly 50 million, 1/3 of all males and 40 percent of females.
Perhaps most troubling is that treatment options for Type 2 diabetes are limited, and one approach in particular, Actos (pioglitazone), has been found to correlate with an unacceptably high risk of bladder cancer and other serious side effects. For longer-term Actos patients, the probability of experiencing a potentially fatal side effect may rise to as high as forty percent.
Have you experienced a side effect because of your Actos prescription? Your rights may have been violated as a result.
