Primarily prescribed to treat type 2 diabetes in adults and reduce the risk of cardiovascular problems, Ozempic, Mounjaro, and Wegovy have recently been widely prescribed to help with weight loss. These drugs mimic the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (“GLP-1 RAs") hormone in the body, which increases insulin secretion and helps regulate blood sugar levels.
Recent studies have shown that semaglutide medications such as these may increase the risk of gastroparesis, also known as stomach paralysis. Gastroparesis is a condition affecting the stomach muscles that slows or stops the movement of food from your stomach to your small intestine.
