Did the Manufacturer of Actos Warn the Medical Community?

According to a number of health experts and consumer advocates, Takeda Pharmaceuticals, the maker of Actos (pioglitazone), failed to appropriately warn doctors or patients about the health risks of this commonly prescribed type 2 diabetes drug.

Recently, a safety consultant who worked for Takeda alleged that the major pharmaceutical manufacturer knew about the drug’s connection to more than a dozen types of cancer but declined to recognize it or warn the health care community. In fact, according to the consultant’s report, Takeda only made sure that 7 out of 10 bladder cancer events were reported to the FDA.
