Lexapro & Spina Bifida

Lexapro (escitalopram) has many potential harmful side effects, but one of the most tragic is spina bifida. Present in as many as 1 in 800 births, spina bifida is a neural tube defect which results in the incomplete forming of the spinal canal. Rather than a joined spine and backbone covered with tissue, a child suffering spinal bifida will be born with his or her spinal cord sticking out of her back. This condition often requires surgery after birth and, in some cases, lifelong treatment for any resulting harm.

Spina bifida has several suspected causes and no certain source. However, recent medical research suggests that powerful antidepressants known as SSRIs, including Lexapro may be a contributing factor to some children’s spina bifida.

Are you a mother who consumed Lexapro during your pregnancy? Does your child now suffer from spina bifida or another congenital defect? If the answer to these questions is yes, members of your family may be the victims of a deception that violated your legal rights. Ready to find out more information?
