Law360 has released its list of Texas Cases to Watch In 2020. Topping the list is the multidistrict litigation being spearheaded by Fears Nachawati, which aims to hold Big Pharma responsible for its role in starting the opioid crisis.
Attorney Jonathan Novak is playing a leadership role on the trial team handling that litigation, and says he expects things to gain steam in 2020, following the groundwork that’s been laid in the preceding years. “I think the Texas MDL is going to be one of the loudest in terms of making a splash and getting out in front, because we want to go into a courtroom,” Novak said. Currently, about 50 Texas cities and counties are represented as part of the litigation.
The case has been likened to that against Big Tobacco, which took place in the mid to late 90s and brought Texas a settlement in excess of $15 billion.
